COLORAMA !

Explore expressive sketching through colour, people and play

COLORAMA ! is a three-day workshop exploring colour as a tool for building expressive sketches and telling stories.

Through playful experiments, limited palettes and mixed media, we will explore how colours can create depth, atmosphere and rhythm, rather than simply reproduce what we see.

A particular focus will be given to people and everyday scenes: learning how to simplify figures into expressive shapes, use colour to make them stand out or blend into their surroundings, and create connections between characters and their environment.

The workshop will combine demonstrations, short exercises and longer personal projects. Participants will have plenty of time to experiment, test colour combinations and develop their own visual language 

Level All levels are welcome, from beginners to experienced sketchers. The exercises can be adapted to each participant’s experience and approach.

    Friday 9th October 2026

    Colour & People

    We focus on people as graphic elements within a composition.

    Through quick exercises, we will explore gesture, silhouette, posture and clothing as colour shapes, experimenting with different levels of simplification and different colour approaches.

    We will then combine people and environment, working with scale, overlap, contrast and colour relationships to create depth and visual hierarchy.

    Saturday, 10th October 2026

    Let Colour Lead 

    We move towards larger and more complete scenes.

    Starting with a spontaneous first layer of colour, we will let colours mix and interact directly on the paper, embracing unexpected results and accidents.

    We will then gradually bring structure back into the image through successive layers, using colour to clarify the space, highlight the characters and guide the viewer's eye. 

  • Sunday 11th October 2026

    Make it Yours

    The final session will be a more personal project, bringing together everything explored during the workshop.

    Participants will choose their own scene and develop several small compositions and colour palettes before creating a final drawing.

    The emphasis will be on making personal choices: simplifying, exaggerating, shifting colours away from reality and using people, colour and composition to create an expressive image. Workshop
